Piano Lessons

Ages 5 and Up

I teach the basics of piano technique, reading notes, scales, chords, and rhythms. Students follow the book materials that I provide for music theory and learning.

We work together to choose adequate songs for each student’s study level.

I am a flexible instructor. I use rigorous techniques but my goal is to keep students motivated. We often work as a team: I am open to hear from students what they would like to learn so that the learning process is welcoming and, more importantly, stress-free!

What Makes Our Music Studio Special?

Teaching music is an art! And teaching music to children and teens requires constant connection and encouragement. Alan is not only highly skilled musician, trained as an orchestral conductor, he is also friendly and approachable.

Students learn the content through encouragement. Lesson-demands are appropriate to student’s skill level and their age development. Smile and laughing are part of the method!

Having lessons at a private studio can help build more connections between instructor and student: student’s learning and development are closely observed. As a home-based studio, your family is also supporting another local family.

Study and Homework Commitment

Families and students are often busy with many great extracurricular activities: getting to study hours of music a day to become a professional musician can be very challenging.

Considering students’ busy schedules, I provide quality assignments that fit with each student’s reality and desired level of commitment. This approach prevents students from feeling frustrated or losing motivation.

Most of my students practice an average of 15-20 minutes a day and they learn to play––and have fun––with the repertory they study.

For those students who develop further passion to practice music, I guide them and prepare them for exams to earn certificates of merit, such as from the Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM).
